When I was young I believed in Father Christmas so I loved Christmas Eve. In the evening my aunts and uncles and my cousins used to come to our house. We used to prepare a turkey but also snails and oysters. We used to eat for a long time. We children used to play, but the parents used to talk until the early hours. Sometimes I used ti sleep but most of the time I did not sleep. I was waiting for Father Christmas if course!
This is quite a literal translation of the imperfect tense. Look again. How can we make it sound more English?
How about using 'would' instead of used to? In English we don't tend to repeat 'used to' once the context and time is clear.
